My Favorite Part

The course is gorgeous - there is nothing finer than running across the Golden Gate Bridge. The course has elevation gains so it can be a nice challenge for advanced runners. Early start time also helps with a cooler (fog aided) run.

Recommended Changes

There isn't really much happening in terms of energy (bands, etc). Neighborhoods are not very lively - at one junction there were cars honking (in anger) at racers for blocking traffic on Geary Street.

Tips for Future Participants

Train for hills. Take a moment to take a mental (or cameraphone) picture of the great views to and from the GG Bridge.

Maybe even artisanal handcrafted coffee isn't enough to get folks up early on Sunday morning to cheer folks on. So don't rely spectator energy to drive you to the finish (even though the folks that are out scattered along the course and the finish line are wonderful!)

But here's the good news: You'll get 500% more motivation than you need from the gorgeous course itself. San Francisco, with stunning its bay views, iconic skyline, and verdant parks, is a gem. And in this half marathon, you get to see every shimmering facet.

And then… then you run across an international icon: the Golden Gate Bridge. Continue reading...
